1.
You ran so fast, you couldn’t feel your heart beat, The wintry moon, hit your bloodied nose, Your Daddy’s gone, And your Mothers broke. A royal flush of riches, A lay down misere for you, My teenage girl. You don’t want to run, And you don’t want to hide Don’t want to go into the night (x3) You dropped a pill, To bend the straight world, You dropped your pants to show the world, That punk is dead, Was it ever real A single mother is more punk, Then you. Anthropod I’m lost in space
2.
Dust, beads, rust ,leaves, Lust, weeds, I don’t want you. Breathe, dream, sea, scars, Milk, farm, I can’t want you. Doll face, two faced, broke poor, I can’t have that. I can’t want you.
3.
You woke up On a park bench. Your broken face, spoke To the morning birds You asked them, Where do you go when you have nothing? Is it the same place you go when you have it all? And honey, I have no answers To the questions, That you penned, in the rain I am sorry to say, I took a wrong turn, Now I think we’re dead.
4.
I just want to drop pills, Take my tears away, But I got no money, To take my tears, Skateboard through the rain. I just want to go home, Take my sister away, It was Xmas when I, Went oh slightly insane, Skateboard thru the rain.
5.
Woke up on a strangers bed. Light a cigarette, From the gas oven in your head. You want to curl up, In the cloud that floated by, It was shaped like a fox, With pretty, pretty eyes. We all bleed the same she said. Got framed with that gun in my hand. Coz, I don’t know where the rich kids go, I will snort their blow They will never know. We all bleed the same she said. Got framed with that knife in my hand. The break of dawn. It breaks ya heart. The break of dawn, it breaks ya heart, That love it wasn’t so great.

Everybody wants to grow up fast, Fake your I.D., And smoke some grass, It won’t change. I saw Jordy boy selling drugs on the street, He said Ferny boy, I dance to a different beat, right now! I said Jordy boy we need to write a hit song, So drop your pants, and show us your cock, Right now! I liked you oh, a long time ago, With your moth ridden and op – shop clothes, Why did you change? You said, you fell in love with a punk from the west, You said I would be so very, very impressed, I said, what? I said punk is about the way you live, Look at those tatts, They are just rich kids, They haven’t changed. O, what is punk? I liked you, oh, a long time ago, With your black eyes and broken home, Why did you change? Everybody wants to grow up fast, Fake your I.D., And smoke some grass, It won’t change. Meet me on the corner, Meet me in the rain, Meet me in the light, In the pouring rain, I want to fuck
8.
I’m so lost, I can taste it In my mouth. I’m so broken, I have a glass jaw, For a house. Sunlight smile for me one more time. Jesus, I believed in you, you never believed in me I dropped some pills, I don’t remember ever, Feeling this free Sunlight smile for me one more time.
9.
Little, little, little little, brother, I don’t want to stay here, No more. I just want to go home, I just want to go home.
10.
Let’s be down together, Lets be sad forever, Let’s be broke together, Meet me in December I don’t want to run, I don’t want to go, I don’t want to cry. Let’s be down together, Lets be sad forever, Let’s be broke together, Meet me in December.
11.
If rainbows are, Everything you make out to be, Then box up my broken thoughts and Put them under the Xmas tree. You grew up in the clouds, on fingernails and foodstamps, and when you cried, it drizzled, all over the Christian camps. Are you lost like me? If so, do you feel as free? I once read about how the world is flat, But its crooked just like me. So quarantine the gated home, And skateboard over garden gnomes, You once got egged by a chicken in a toupee, A soufflé, now that bird has flown.
12.
Come with me, In my, my lonely spaceship, Where we can be hip, In my spaceship

about

Forty Thousand Sisters is M. Cooke, co-founder of cult band Gaslight Radio.

Accompanied by artist Dyana Gray on vocals and backed by old friends Mark Wood (Bass) and Alasdair Macdonald (Drums), Cooke entered the studio to record (as far as his record label knew) a demo. There was no demo; there was an album and a whole lot more, all recorded and mixed in two intense nights by some tough-as-guts engineers who didn’t know what hit them.

The result is a work that captures the energy, enthusiasm and spontaneity of Cooke's manic vision: an album with unpolished edges that sings about youth and loss and life and hope and drugs and booze and a whole lot more.

It’s innocent and it’s corrupt and has moments that make you shudder and think back and think forward and actually feel something.

Goodbye Broken Sled was long listed for the Australian Music Prize (2012), not that that means anything.
